Theodor Seuss Geisel (2 March 1904 – 24 September 1991), better known by his pen name, Dr. Seuss, was a famous American writer and cartoonist best known for his children's books.

He published 46 children's books, which were often characterized by imaginative characters, rhyme, and frequent use of trisyllabic meter. His most celebrated books include the bestselling Green Eggs and Ham, The Cat in the Hat, One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish, Horton Hatches the Egg, Horton Hears a Who!, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas!. Numerous adaptations of his work have been created, including 11 television specials, four feature films, a Broadway musical and four television series. He won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award in 1958 for Horton Hatches the Egg and again in 1961 for And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street.

Geisel also worked as an illustrator for advertising campaigns, most notably for Flit and Standard Oil, and as a political cartoonist for PM, a New York City newspaper. During World War II, he worked in an animation department of the U.S Army, where he wrote Design for Death, a film that later won the 1947 Academy Award for Documentary Feature.

Geisel's birthday, March 2, has been adopted as the annual date for National Read Across America Day, an initiative on reading created by the National Education Association.

Geisel died of throat cancer on September 24, 1991, after several years of poor health, in La Jolla, California. He was cremated and his ashes were scattered. On December 1, 1995, four years after his death, UCSD's University Library Building was renamed Geisel Library in honor of Geisel and Audrey for the generous contributions they made to the library and their devotion to improving literacy.

Twitter, Foursquare Guilty of Slurping User Data without user consent

Independent testing finds that Path isn’t the only offending iOS app uploading contact data from mobile devices without user consent. Foursqaure, Twitters and other are also guilty.

Several popular online services, including Foursquare and Twitter, are guilty of slurping up large amounts of personal data through their mobile applications without getting explicit permission from users. Now that they have been caught, these iOS developers, along with Apple, are promising to start warning users first.

Foursqaure, Twitters and other are also guilty.
On Feb. 8, Arun Thampi, a software developer, disclosed reported that the popular diary app Path was uploading the entire address book from the user's iPhone to the company's servers without warning users. After a widespread outcry about violating user privacy, Path CEO Dave Morin apologized later that day and announced the latest version would explicitly require the user to opt-in to upload the information. However, more research by Paul Haddad, a developer with Tapbots, shows that Path was not alone in this kind of behavior, The Next Web reported.

Foursquare is another offender, as its iOS app uploads all the email addresses and phone numbers in the address book with no warning or asking users for consent, Haddad told The Next Web. The latest update, released Feb. 14, now warns users before doing so. Popular photo app Instagram did the same thing until Feb. 11, when it quietly updated the app to inform users that contact data will be uploaded when using the "Find Friends" feature.

Facebook's iOS app appears to send email addresses, phone numbers and names from the address book but warns users first, according to Haddad's analysis.

However there are a group of apps, such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google+, and Skype, that hooked into the Address Book framework in iOS but did not appear to be sending any information, Haddad found. These apps had the capability to grab the data and use it locally, but have not done so yet.

Twitter is another major company backpedaling after reports found that its iOS app is grabbing and storing user contacts information without explicitly warning the user. When a user selects the "Find Friends" option on the iOS app, the app uploads all the email addresses and phone numbers stored in contacts on the device's address book and keeps it on its servers for 18 months.

Twitter has promised to update the app "soon" with "more explicit" language on what the option does with user data. Users who don't want Twitter to retain the contacts data can request the information be removed by clicking on the tiny "remove" link on Twitter's Import page.

"Most of us would like to be explicitly alerted when an app decides to this," Carole Theriault wrote on the Sophos Naked Security blog.

Online services are "trying to take advantage of the naivety of their users, rather than look after them," Theriault wrote. When social media platforms depend on users to create accounts and use the services to be successful, then they should make more of an attempt to protect users, Theriault argued.

In a recent mobile threats report, Juniper Networks warned about a growing number of mobile apps that were "suspicious, but not malicious." These apps are likely to request more device permissions than they actually need, share excessive amounts of data with third parties, or access features and data without obtaining explicit consent.

Of the approximately 790,000 apps analyzed by Juniper, 30 percent obtained device location data without explicit consent, according to the report. A little less than 15 percent of the apps requested permission to initiate calls without user intervention, and 5 percent asked to be allowed to send SMS messages without user knowledge. Another 6 percent wanted permission to view all accounts saved on the device, including email and social networking accounts.

Apple has been roundly criticized for not explicitly building in controls in its iOS framework to make developers ask permission before grabbing user data. In response to Congressional inquiry, Apple has promised to update the iOS framework to require permission, Reuters reported.

Dimensions Of A Series Paper Sizes

Paper sizes are categorized into two standards, the ISO standard and the North American size standard. ISO standard has A, B and C series, while NA standard is based on inches.
  • "A-series", for general printing
  • "B-series", for posters
  • "C-series", for envelopes, postcards, and folders
The "A" series is used most commonly with sizes ranging from A0,which is the largest, down to A8. The A-series sizes are represented as a part of the area of one square meter with a length to width ratio of 1.414. Size A0 is equivalent to the area of one square meter while each smaller size being 50% of the size of the preceding one. A1 is 50% of the area of A0; A2 is 50% of A1, and so on.  Another way to look at it is that when an A0 sheet cut in half yields two A1 sheets, and an A1 sheet cut in half yields two A2 sheets.

North American Size Standards

Although the ISO size standards are common in many parts of the world where the metric system is the established standard for measurement, North American sheet sizes are based on inches. The most common size of cut sheet for copier/printers is 8.5”x11” (Letter Size) that is based on basis size of 17”x22”. (Letter being the quarter of the size of the 17” x 22”). Other popular sizes are 8.5”x14” (Legal Size), and 11”x17” (Ledger Size). The other sizes such as 12”x18” and 9”x12” are becoming popular for color applications. These paper sizes are based on paper sizes used in offset printing.

Engineering paper sizes are also in this category with sizes such as 9”x12” (A size), 12”x18” (B size), 18”x 24” (C size), 24”x36” (D), 36”x48” (E size).

Remove limitations from streaming platforms MegaVideo, Veoh and MegaUpload

It can be quite annoying when certain videos are available online only partial because of the restrictions that block users from viewing a certain point forward or after some time.

Bypass video watching restriction limits
The Illimitux extension removes limitations imposed by some streaming platforms like MegaVideo, Veoh or MegaUpload. With Illimitux, you can view these videos without any restrictions in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers.

Once the extension is installed, it automatically detects any restrictions imposed for that video and allows the user to remove any barriers simply by pressing the button to remove the restrictions.

Sachin Tendulkar's ODI Unbeaten 200 off 147 Balls Highlights Video

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar (सचिन रमेश तेंडुलकर; born 24 Apri 1973) created history by firing the first double century in one-day internationals as India put South Africa to the sword in Gwalior. The 36-year-old was in indomitable form as he bludgeoned 25 fours and three sixes in a stunning 200 off 147 balls.

It passed the previous best of 194, set by Pakistan's Saeed Anwar in 1997 and Zimbabwe's Charles Coventry last year. And it led India, aided by a fabulous cameo of 68 off 35 balls from Mahendra Dhoni, to a superb 401-3 from 50 overs.

Tendulkar, whose previous best one-day knock was the 186 not out he scored against New Zealand in 1999, is already the leading run-scorer in Test and ODI cricket.

But to have reached such a landmark, with a single in the final over, only serves to underline his class and add to the legacy that already surrounds arguably the finest batsman to have played the game.

His innings was typified by wristy strokes, trademark boundary shots and, above all, stamina as he batted through the entire innings.

He passed the previous best score in ODIs off 140 deliveries before taking his time over the final six runs, completing his double century with a single off Charl Langeveldt four balls from the end of the innings.

Despite clearly suffering with cramp towards the end, Tendulkar was not to be denied and the packed Gwalior crowd were in raptures as he brought up the record.

About Norman Rockwell and his best paintings

Norman Percevel Rockwell (February 3, 1894 – November 8, 1978) was a 20th-century American painter and illustrator. His works enjoy a broad popular appeal in the United States, where Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations of everyday life scenarios he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over more than four decades. Among the best-known of Rockwell's works are the Willie Gillis series, Rosie the Riveter (although his Rosie was reproduced less than others of the day), Saying Grace (1951), and the Four Freedoms series.

He was also famous for his works in the Boy Scouts of America publication and for his iconographic advertisements for companies including Coca-Cola, Ford Motor Company and Sun-Maid Raisins.

He painted portraits for Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon, as well as other foreign presidents and movie stars of his day.

His art made him a bit of a celebrity and twice he judged the Miss America Beauty Pageant. He also endorsed products including after-shave, tombstones and wine.

He tried to enlist in the U.S Navy during the First World War but was refused entry because he was eight pounds underweight, at 6 feet tall and 140 pounds.

During the Second World War in 1943, Norman painted the Four Freedoms series, which he completed in seven months and resulted in him losing 15 pounds. The series was inspired by a Franklin D Roosevelt speech in which he described four principles for universal rights: Freedom from Want, Freedom of Speech, Freedom to Worship, and Freedom from Fear.

In 1943 a fire in Norman’s studio destroyed numerous original paintings, costumes, and props. He was commissioned to illustrate over 40 books including Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn.

If you visit Google.com today, you will see a special doodle, with a boy and a girl sitting on a bench together. The painting was one of Norman Rockwell’s most famous, which was on the front cover of the Saturday Evening Post on April 24, 1926. It was known as the “Little Spooners.”

Solar eclipse of January 15, 2010 in google maps

The solar eclipse of January 15, 2010 is an annular eclipse of the Sun with a magnitude of 0.9190. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring Earth's view of the Sun. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the Moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the Sun, causing the sun to look like an annulus (ring), blocking most of the Sun's light. An annular eclipse will appear as partial eclipse over a region thousands of miles wide.

It will be visible as a partial eclipse in much of Africa, Eastern Europe, Middle East and Asia. It will be seen as annular within a narrow stretch of 300 km (190 mi) width across Central Africa, Maldives, South Kerala (India), South Tamil Nadu(India), North Sri Lanka, parts of Burma and parts of China.

The eclipse starts at Uganda, passes through Nairobi, enters Indian ocean where the greatest eclipse is taking place in mid of Ocean for a maximum of 11 Mins and 7.7 seconds.

After that enters Maldives, where it would be the longest on land with 10.8 Min of viewing. This makes the tiny islands of Maldives the best spot for viewing this eclipse from land. The annular Eclipse at Male', the capital city of Maldives starts at 12:20:20 hrs and ends 12:30:06 hrs Maldives local time (GMT+5hrs). This is also the longest duration of any city having an international airport in the eclipse track.

Barack Obama's Interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Full Video

US President Barack Obama has appeared on a popular TV chat show to promote moves to resolve the economic crisis.
Barack Obama's Interview on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno Full Video

He told NBC's Tonight Show he was taking full responsibility "to fix" the economy, in the first-ever appearance on the show by a serving US president.

Mr Obama said he was "stunned" by the huge bonuses that bailed-out insurance firm AIG was paying its employees.

The bonuses - totalling $165m (£113m) in a company now 80% government-owned - have caused outrage in the US.

On Thursday, US lawmakers in the House of Representatives backed a bill to levy a 90% tax on big bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers.

Mr Obama told programme host Jay Leno in Burbank, California: "The immediate bonuses that went to AIG are a problem but the larger problem is we've got to get back to an attitude where people know enough is enough and people have a sense of responsibility.

"And if we can get back to those values that built America, then I think we're going to be OK."

Promoting his plans for broad reform of financial regulation, Mr Obama said they were needed because "most of the stuff that got us into trouble was perfectly legal".

'Pretty cool'

The president also mounted a strong defence of his embattled Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner.

"This guy has not just a banking crisis. He's got the worst recession since the Great Depression," he said, adding: "I think Geithner is doing an outstanding job."

Mr Obama also exchanged jokes with Leno during the 35-minute interview.

Referring to his critics, he said: "I do think in Washington it's a little bit like American Idol, except everybody is Simon Cowell."

Questions veered away from politics and into the personal life of the president and his family in the White House.

He said it was "pretty cool" to fly on Air Force One, and that his daughters Sasha and Malia would get their promised pet dog "shortly".

For fans of the president it was an opportunity to see him looking calm and humorous, the BBC's Justin Webb in Washington says.

Mr Obama's staff also felt that they needed to use any opportunity they have to allow him to explain himself to the widest possible audience.

But his opponents say that the appearance demeaned his office and was a distraction from serious issues, our correspondent says.

Mesothelioma

Short note about Mesothelioma:
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by exposure to asbestos. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart, the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis.

Most people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fiber in other ways. It has also been suggested that washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos can put a person at risk for developing mesothelioma.Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking, but smoking greatly increases the risk of other asbestos-induced cancers. Compensation via asbestos funds or lawsuits is an important issue in mesothelioma (see asbestos and the law).

The symptoms of mesothelioma include shortness of breath due to pleural effusion (fluid between the lung and the chest wall) or chest wall pain, and general symptoms such as weight loss. The diagnosis may be suspected with chest X-ray and CT scan, and is confirmed with a biopsy (tissue sample) and microscopic examination. A thoracoscopy (inserting a tube with a camera into the chest) can be used to take biopsies. It allows the introduction of substances such as talc to obliterate the pleural space (called pleurodesis), which prevents more fluid from accumulating and pressing on the lung. Despite treatment with chemotherapy, radiation therapy or sometimes surgery, the disease carries a poor prognosis. Research about screening tests for the early detection of mesothelioma is ongoing.

Designer: Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron along with Arup Sport and China Architecture Design & Research Group

The National Stadium (Olympic Green) is better known as Beijing National Stadium. The stadium is also known as the "Bird's Nest" due to it's amazing design. This National Stadium, Beijing, is the main track and field stadium for the Beijing Summer Games 2008. This stadium will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the twenty-ninth Summer Games. The stadium will be the venue of the athletics and football events during the Games. The National Stadium is being built at the intended location of the Guangdong Olympic Stadium. The stadium meets all the functional and technical requirements of an Olympic National Stadium.

Location of the Beijing National Stadium: The stadium is located at the Olympic Green in Beijing in the Chaoyang district. BaDaLing and JuYongGuan wall are the nearest part of the Great Wall of China from Beijing. Kempinski Beijing Lufthansa Center, Marriott Beijing Executive Apartments, Renaissance Beijing Hotel, Comfort Inn & Suites, Hotel Kunlun, Beijing Jing Gang Wan Hotel, Beijing Hua Tai Hotel are some hotels near the Beijing National Stadium in the Chaoyang district.

Description of the Beijing National Stadium: In 2002, Beijing Government officials held a design competition for architects all over the world to design the stadium for Summer Games 2008. Pritzker Prize winning architects Jaques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron in alliance with Arup Sport and China Architecture Design & Research Group won the competition. The construction of the stadium started in March, 2004 and is almost ready for hosting the Summer Games. The estimated cost in building this National Olympic Stadium comes to be around $500,000,000.

The Beijing National Stadium has a synergistic appearance. The superstructure has been made following the model designed. The only alteration is the omission of the roof in the new design. The structure of the stadium is built with 36 kilometer of unwrapped steel. The huge steel beams mutually support each other and converge into a grid-like formation. The formation looks like a bird's nest with the interwoven twigs. For this reason, the Beijing National Stadium is also known as the ‘Bird's Nest'. The stadium, in every sense, is the historical landmark for the Summer Games of 2008. The lobby of the stadium includes all the facilities – restaurants, suites, shops and restrooms. All these facilities are self-contained units in the stadium. The lobby functions like an arcade. The stands are divided in three tiers. The spacious ambulatory circles the stands.
