Bachna Ae Haseeno Movie Review

Movie: Bachna Ae Haseeno
Genre: Romance
Director: Siddharth Anand
Producer: Aditya Chopra
Banner: Yash Raj Films
Music Director: Vishal Dadlani, Shekhar Ravjiani
Star Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu, Minissha Lamba
Release Date: 15th August, 2008

Why do girls always fall for a wrong guy? And why does the guy always repent at the end for not identifying his real love? The story of Bachna Ae Haseeno revolves around these puzzling questions against a backdrop of stylish tale of love and lust. The film is sporadic genre film portraying three different romantic incidents in the life of protagonist Raj ( Ranbir Kapoor), who is not exactly like Casanova but his promiscuity with women is no less than classic Venetian adventurer.

Bachna Ae Haseeno is all about a lucky boy who has three romantic moorings. While first two are just settings to get the girls but the third one is serious. Here, the new millennial Romeo with his wild, unpredictable and jaunty playboy characteristics entangles in three track love story. All the three tracks are dissimilar and have been given a different treatment.

The promise that Ranbir Kapoor displayed in his debut movie Sawaaria, has been continued in Bachna Ae Haseeno. He carries his role with elegance and looks a perfect chocolate boy. Minissha has done well with has given a creditable performance. Bipasa Basu has been given the most coveted role and she gives a spectacular peformance. But the most disappointing part was indeed the Deepika Padukoune’s role where the script didn’t allow her to do anything promising.

The music by Vishal Shekhar Ravjiani is soothing and has already become quite popular. Shilpa Rao has gotten her big break in “ Khuda Jane” song while KK with his usual high tone fetched the song to life. Other songs like “Ahishta Ahishta” , “Jogi Mahi” and the title song “ Bachna Ae Haseeno” are quite entertaining.

Director Siddharth Raj has done a good job albeit of a poor script. The story and script lacked imagination and innovation, especially in the second half when the movie has gone through some sad moments. The best part of the movie is its cinematography

Michael Phelps makes history with 8th gold at a single Olympic Games

Michael Phelps completed his quest for eight gold medals at a single Olympic Games in yet another world record time as the United States trumped the rest of the field to win the 4x100 metres medley relay.

The 23-year-old American eclipsed Mark Spitz's record of seven gold medals at a single Games - set in Munich in 1972 - as the relay allowed Phelps to round-out an astonishing achievement many believed impossible.

Jason Lezak held off a late challenge from Australia's Eamon Sullivan as the Americans won in a time of 3 minutes 29.34 seconds, 1.34 seconds under the world record to hand Phelps - who swam the butterfly leg - his record breaking gold.

Phelps went into the water trailing after 100 and 200m breaststroke champion Kosuke Kitajima had given Japan the lead at the halfway mark, but a commanding performance by the Baltimore swimmer put the United States back in front.

That left Lezak to deliver Phelps his eighth win and, just as he did in the 4 x 100m freestyle relay, the 100m freestyle bronze medallist came through for his team mate when it mattered.

He said: 'I don't know what to feel, so many emotions, so much excitement. I just want to see my mum.

'Its been nothing but an upwards rollercoaster but its been nothing but fun.'

Spitz's record had stood unchallenged for 36 years but the wait to find someone to go better than Phelps could take another century.

He said: 'The biggest thing is nothing is impossible.

'With so many people saying it couldn't be done, all it takes is an imagination.

'That's something I learned, something that helped me.'

It was the seventh world record Phelps has been involved in at the Water Cube but more significantly it provided him with an eighth gold medal.

He had earlier won the 400 individual medley, 4x100 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle, 200 butterfly, 4x200 freestyle relay, 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly.

Bolt crowned fastest man

World record holder Usain Bolt scorched into the men's 100m final of the Beijing Olympics here on Saturday, posting the second fastest time in Games history in his semi-final.

But reigning double world champion Tyson Gay of the United States crashed out, finishing only fifth in 10.05sec in the second semi-final which was won convincingly by Bolt's Jamaican compatriot Asafa Powell in 9.91sec.

Bolt eased up after 65m to win his semi with effortless ease in 9.85sec, a time beaten only in Olympic standards by Canadian Donovan Bailey's gold medal-winning run at the 1996 Atlanta Games.

The US team will be represented in the final later Saturday by Walter Dix and Darvis Patton, while there will be six Caribbean sprinters.

Bolt and Powell will be joined by countryman Michael Frater, the Trinidadian duo of Richard Thompson and Marc Burns, and Churandy Martina of the Dutch Antilles.

The semi-finals of the women's 800m saw fancied Kenyan duo Janeth Jepkosgei and Pamela Jelimo cruise through to Monday's final.

Mozambique veteran Maria Mutola also produced a last-gasp home-stretch sprint to qualify for her fifth Olympic final.

Earlier on Saturday, walker Valeriy Borchin held off former champion Jefferson Perez of Ecuador to hand Russia its first athletics gold of the Beijing Olympics.

Borchin won the men's 20km race walk in one hour, 19 minutes and 01 seconds for Russia's first-ever Olympic walking success.

The 22-year-old, who served a one-year drugs ban in the 2005/06 season, beat home 1996 Olympic champion Perez by 14 seconds, with Australian Jared Tallent a further 27 seconds adrift in the bronze medal position.

"I never expected to win this medal," said Borchin, who opened up the decisive gap over Perez with two kilometres to go.

"At the beginning, I was lagging behind. I feel my dream has come true."
