Brazil vs Chile Match Preview
Brazil will be hoping to maintain their recent superiority over Chile when the two teams meet in their World Cup knockout stage clash on Monday.
Brazil beat Chile in both their qualifying matches and coach Dunga will be optimistic that his side can extend their winning streak even though they put up a below par performance against Portugal in their final group game.
Needing just a draw to qualify to the next stage, both Brazil and Portugal fielded defensive line-ups leading to a disappointing match of very few chances. However Dunga will be fielding all of his key players against Chile with Kaka available for selection after missing the game against Portugal due to suspension.
Chile on the other hand will be looking to maintain their good form in the tournament that almost saw them pip pre-tournament favorites Spain to top their group. Victories in their first two games had all but confirmed their participation in the knockout stage and Chile came very close to collecting at least a point against Spain in their final group game.
Brazil vs Chile Head-to-head:
- Brazil have lost only seven of their previous 65 games against Chile. Brazil have won the last seven, scoring 26 goals and conceding just three. Chile's last win was 3-0 in a World Cup qualifier in 2000, in one of Wanderley Luxemburgo's final matches as Brazilian coach.
Brazil
- They have participated in all 18 previous World Cups, and have won the most world titles (five).
- Five of Brazil's 18 World Cup qualifiers finished goalless.
- Brazil's only defeat in their last 29 matches came against Bolivia at altitude in La Paz.
Chile
- Chile received 10 yellow cards during the group stage, more than any other side. That includes the two cautions shown to Marco Estrada against Spain, resulting in a red card.
- Marcelo Bielsa's side scored more away goals in qualification (18) than any other South American team.
