India v West Indies Cricket World Cup Match Report
Co-hosts India beat the West Indies by 80 runs on Sunday to set up a clash with defending champions Australia in Ahmedabad on Thursday.
Australia will head into the quarter-final with several question marks over their batting line-up after they suffered a four-wicket loss - their first defeat at the World Cup since 1999 - against Pakistan on Saturday.
Of particular concern will be the form of their captain Ricky Ponting who has scored just 102 runs in five matches.
Yuvraj, who hit a century and picked up two wickets against the Windies, believes India should exploit Australia’s middle order.
“They’ve won four games at this World Cup. Teams are equal at the moment, it’s just who plays better on the day,” said Yuvraj.
“Australia are a top side, they’ve won three successive World Cups but Shane Warne, Glenn McGrath, Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden are not there.
“You can get into the middle order and Ponting is not in great form. If we can get into their weaknesses, we can win the quarter-final.”
India’s form at the World Cup has been patchy; they lost against South Africa, drew against England but won their matches against the Bangladesh, the Netherlands, Ireland and the West Indies.
Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni promises his team will step it up in the next round.
“We will be at our best for the quarter-finals,” said Dhoni.
“Australia are a very strong side and very expressive on the field. But it’s about how we prepare for the game to achieve what we want.
“In the process, we hope to give our best.”
