Alana Seebarran of Guyana Wins Miss India Worldwide 2012 (Photos)

Alana Seebarran, representing Guyana, was crowned the Miss India Worldwide 2012, Saturday evening at the KKF Ballroom in Paramaribo Suriname, She also won the title of Best talent. Her prize includes US$7,000.

Kuwait was 1st runner-up and Australia 2nd runner-up.

Of the five finalists Seebaran earned the most points in the round of questions. She also appeared to have scored high during the talent round one day earlier. Seebaran also performed a combination of Indian folk and Bollywood acts.

Miss India Suriname Varsha Ramrattan was among the top five. First runner up is Anvita Sudarshan (Kuwait) and second runner up Olivia Rose (Australia).

The audience responded quite happily at the outcome.  About 40 Guyanese traveled with Seebaran from Guyana to Suriname.

According to her Facebook page, Alana Seebarran is an accomplished dancer, performing for many years in the Guyana Hindu Dharmic Sabha's Naya Zamana dance show. She attended Mae's Primary School, School of the Nations, and presently York University in Toronto, Canada pursuing a degree in Marketing.

Sponsor of the contest, Dilip Sardjoe, who is also the publisher of the Times of Suriname, printed 1,000 copies of a special edition about the pageant.

Alana has been an active participant of the York University's South Asian Alliance dance troupe, helping them place 2nd out of 16 universities in Canada. She teaches classical and Bollywood style dancing to young girls in Toronto and she is also a teacher at the Redeemer Lutheran Church during Vacation Bible School.

It is amazing that millions of Indians all over the world still have strong roots with India. The Miss India Worldwide pageant is an example of it.

I guess that Indian food, Indian family traditions (especially marriages), Indian festivals and Indian art (especially Indian movies) are strong factors that bind global Indians together.

It is not uncommon to see Indian stars like Shahrukh Khan or Amitabh Bachchan being mobbed all over the world.
